Description

Escape to the Leadville lifestyle and breathe the freshest air there is and drink from the source of mountain waters. Go outside and get some exercise, or stay in and read a book, and enjoy the view. You can go on an outdoor adventure for snow activities at Ski Cooper or Copper Mountain. This apartment/condo is in a private home built by former Governor of Colorado, Jesse McDonald in 1893. Experience the epitome of Leadville character. Located on the first floor, this suite exudes Victorian charm. Enjoy your own kitchen and bathroom, and always be steps away from downtown. Note: the home is older (as all homes are in Leadville!) and shares walls with the unit next door. Noise leaks but we provide white noise machines and ear plugs if you need them. Please respect the neighbors and keep noise to a minimum after 10pm! Parlor The private entrance opens into a formal parlor with a 12 foot ceiling, crystal chandelier and electric fireplace with original mantel. An antique dresser, wing-back chair, antique armoire and cable TV are also located in the living room. Primary Bedroom The primary bedroom has a queen size bed with luxurious pillows, an antique dresser and mirror and reproduction wallpaper imported from England. This room also has original wood flooring dating back to 1881. Kitchen The fully equipped kitchen has a cook top range, refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffeemaker and table with two chairs and a bench. Delicate floral wallpaper and lace curtains add to the charm. Bathroom Off of the hall between the kitchen and bedroom is a private bath with a shower. The black-and-white geometric tile floor, mahogany sink cabinet and wainscoting on the walls give this modern bath an old-fashioned feel. We hope you have a delightful stay in our historic rental property, immersing yourself in the character of Leadville and creating wonderful memories. Please Note: We do utilize a weblink outside the platform that directs guests to our guidebook. You will receive an email with this link. This is the ONLY way guests can access check-in information, and facilitates the collection of pet fees and other special requests/upgraded services we offer. The space is completely private from the rest of the house and has a dedicated parking spot. We're a text/phone call away! Disclosure: There is going to be some city construction going on this summer. We apologize! We will remove this disclosure when the project is completed. You may encounter some road or alley blockages near the home during your stay. Construction will not be going on outside of weekday 8am-5pm hours. Parking can be found on 7th and 8th Street. You'll be surrounded by the highest mountains in the Colorado Rockies where majestic scenery blends with a lively history. There is much to do during your stay including: - Skiing at nearby Ski Cooper, Copper Mountain, Keystone, Breckenridge, Vail and Beaver Creek - Ice skating, sledding, snowshoeing, snowmobiling and Nordic skiing on the Mineral Belt Trail. - Mountain biking for any level of expertise. Located just one block from Main street means that most places in town can be reached by foot. Violations of this may be met with a $100 fine or we may ask you to check-out early. If it snows more than several inches, look for snow removal signs to make sure you don't violate any temporary parking rules The Governor's Mansion was once the home of former Governor Jesse McDonald and is centrally located in Leadville's National Historic Landmark District. Part of this house was built in 1881, with the mansion portion completed in 1893. Former Governor, Jesse McDonald, who sought and found his fortune in Leadville, built this big house to entertain guests as they travelled through town. Staying in the mountains offers a unique and nature-immersed experience, characterized by a rustic charm. You might occasionally encounter some of the local wildlife, insects, and small critters that are part of the natural surroundings. We recommend keeping doors securely closed whenever possible. Rest assured, we've implemented thorough measures to ensure your stay remains undisturbed by these natural inhabitants. Altitude sickness is real. In Leadville/ Twin Lakes, the elevation can be up to 10,000 feet. Symptoms can include dizziness and nausea, so please be mindful of this. We cannot offer refunds for guests experiencing altitude sickness. If you anticipate being affected, we recommend obtaining insurance at the time of booking.View More
