Lake County Weather Information
Leadville is nestled in the valley between the beautiful Sawatch and Mosquito Ranges. Summers are mild, we have roughly 250 sunny days a year, and snow can happen in any month! Average annual snowfall is over 115 inches, whereas rainfall is only about 18 inches per year. Winters are not “bitter cold” despite average highs around 32° F because humidity is so low. Summer highs average about 70° F, and the UV index here is 5.9, whereas the national average is 4.3. The air is crystal clear and unpolluted.
Here at 10,152 feet elevation, altitude sickness can potentially affect anyone, regardless of level of fitness. Symptoms may include fatigue, loss of appetite, dizziness, headaches, or trouble sleeping, but they go away as your body adjusts to the altitude. Many people aren’t affected at all, but it’s always smart to be prepared. What does all this mean for visitors? We recommend having various layers of clothing year-round, sunscreen & sunglasses, and drinking plenty of water so you can enjoy your stay in any season!
